Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment

This week’s book is Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. Written by James Patterson, this is the first book in the Maximum Ride series. This is not just another story about mutant kids with superpowers, the 6 kids in this book (Max, Fang, Iggy, Nudge, the Gassman, and Angel) are 98% human, 2% bird, complete with super light bone structure, higher stamina and strength, and real wings that enable them to fly. This first book mainly introduces the characters, and sets the scene for the other books. I got a decent glimpse of the characters personalities and abilities, all while Max and co. learn how to survive as “freaks” in the real world, a little bit about their pasts, and the importance of making a positive impact on the world. Although light in action compared to the rest of the series, there was still enough plot and drama to keep me interested. This book starts building the tension that will be present throughout the series, and the ending enticed me to read the rest of the books, without one of those dreaded cliffhangers that are often present just to shock the readers into continuing the series. All in all, a good start to a great series, and another impressive novel by James Patterson.
